Emirates – A380 on DXB-CAN from 8 August, once weekly. A380 also rostered onto EK241 DXB-YYZ from 16 August

United – planning to resume nearly 30 international routes in September including a new route ORD-TLV. Intends to fly 40% of its domestic flights

Again, in no particular order:

Widerøe – in March and April, tiny Norwegian airline became the busiest passenger carrier in Europe. Operating Dash 8 Q400 and E190 fleet. On 23 March had 178 departures, ahead of SAS on 170 and Lufthansa’s 143. Fast-forward to 29 April when Widerøe achieved 194, compared with SAS 91 and Lufthansa 125. The airline operates Public Service Obligation (PSO) routes to many remote communities

Who’s converted an A380 to carry freight?

On 10 July, it was revealed which airline had instigated this project with Lufthansa Technik.  The answer is HiFly, an ACMI/charter specialist with bases in Portugal and Malta.

Happy Birthday Ryanair

Thirty-five years young! 

On 8 July 1985, Ryanair commenced operations with its first flight from Waterford to London Gatwick using an Embraer Bandeirante. Originally named Danren Enterprises, the company was formed in 1984 by Christopher Ryan, Liam Lonergan and Tony Ryan.
